Born and raised in China, Xiona grew up in a society shaped by complex cultural norms and rapid modernization. Her early exposure to diverse social realities fostered a deep curiosity about identity, belonging, and the nuances of human experience. Xiona's passion for storytelling emerged early, inspired by a love for novels, philosophy, and cinema. These influences laid the groundwork for her unique approach to filmmaking, which combines narrative depth with visual experimentation.
During her upbringing, she collaborated with their peers at different ages to create narrative short film works, early thematic explorations include surrealist expression relating to the themes of grief and lost, emergence of identities in youth love, and critiques of social and cultrual realities through personal stories,
Their university in the UK is filled with further explorations on the themes of politics, identity and gender with the making numerous fictional works. As with the coming-out and gender-transition coninciding with shifting into the documentary form, Xiona advocates for queer expression and seek to create queer art that subvert the societal norm yet also makes conversations with it.
