Final Work

Collaborated with UNESCO. The ocean has been trying to communicate its pain for years, through rising tides, dwindling fish stocks, and coral bleaching; but humanity hasn’t always listened. Ocean embodied by drag queen Shelly Grotto, an anthropomorphized Ocean ventures to a Fish and Chips shop for a round of speed dates with three representatives of humanity. Each participant endeavours to build a connection rooted in empathy and reverence to ensure their relationship will go the distance.

They learn that the Ocean is not a distant entity to be feared, but rather a living, breathing being deserving of compassion, and attentive care - qualities that mirror our own desires. It yearns for long-term commitment and wants to avoid the toxicity which broke past relationships - and that’s not just about the oil spills! Among the array of suitors are Maite, a volunteer with Margate's Rise Up Clean Up; Jess, a Plastic Free Thanet anti campaigner; and Ellie, a local comedian, with burning questions about her lifeguard ex.
